Friendly Authors Networking Socials (F.A.N.S.)

In response to requests, we will be hosting gatherings for authors who are published and interested in networking with other authors. To learn and share insights on sales, networking, branding, and other things that may facilitate income and possibly collaboration on future writing projects and events. It is not a writers' group but more a writers' 2.0 group. What is next, and how do I get these boxes of books into the hands of readers? Let's chat, share tips, and learn from and with each other.

The next F.A.N.S. Gathering:

Saturday, August 10, 2024, from 10:30 AM until 12:30 PM

Quality Foods- Upstairs Café,

Eagle Creek Village Shopping Centre, View Royal

Bring your elevator speech and copies of the books you’d like reviewed.

Author Bio This Month:

Jessie Blair

Encouraging Creativity Through Shadow Work

Vancouver writer Jessie Blair seems to have little time to herself these days. What, with her website, Jessie’s Writing Den - which she set up to encourage people to tap into their creative selves, a bi-monthly podcast of short, fiction stories about emotional triggers called, Stories From the Shadows, as well as writing non-fiction on Medium and Substack, with long-term plans on building a creative community which folks can follow for free on Patreon, where does she get the time to do it all?

“This is my job. I’m in the business of creativity,” she says with a smile.

It’s a far cry from where Jessie was only a few, short years ago when she published her first short story in the Filidh Publishing book, Anthology for A Green Planet. She then had a second story published in the anthology Blood Moon Rising.

“Writing is shadow work, fiction writing is about the heroes’ shadow work, what’s triggering them. Memoir is about the authors’ shadow work. The things that need to be overcome in order to reach a goal. Of course, the term shadow work was first coined by Carl Jung.”

“When Carl Jung was counseling people, he had different archetypes and he talked about acceptance and integrating the shadow into other parts of your being. Before you accept your shadow parts you’re traumatised, you are in pieces. You have to integrate everything to be whole as a person.”

This has inspired Jessie to be on this writing and podcasting journey.

“It’s a gradual process,” she says, “to go from recognizing that you reject certain aspects of yourself because you were shamed, scolded, or beaten, to owning and accepting yourself wholly.”

             Excerpt for This Month:

A Journey through the Realm of Dreams by Jesse Blair

Oh, to dream among the books, a wish so grand, To wave my wand and walk in tales firsthand. To step into the pages, be the hero bold, in lands of fantasy where stories unfold.

In one book, I save the world, a knight of light with dragons fierce and battles in the night. I wield the sword amidst enchanted glooms. A knight of light, with courage strong and true,

Then to the sea, a captain brave and hale, Hunting the great white whale with heart and sail. To live so many lives, a gift profound, imagination knows no limit, no bound.

To live a thousand lives, in worlds unknown, In castles grand or realms of ice and stone. Through joy and sorrow, triumph and despair, In every line, a universe laid bare.

From future's edge where technology gleams, To distant past where myths birthed timeless dreams. Imagination sparks, a guiding beam, To forge a life from this enchanted dream.

So let us dream among the books, my friend, Where stories never cease, where dreams ascend. For in these pages, hearts and minds take flight, And weave the fabric of our shared delight.

By M.J.Rose Guest Blogger

From Bookbub Partners

Since self-publishing her first book in 1999 and starting Author Buzz, the first ad agency for authors, M. J. Rose has seen the landscape go from manageable to crowded to very crowded to where we are now — absolutely insane. To stand out in such a competitive marketplace, she says, you have to hook readers with compelling promotional copy that makes a book feel unique.

In  this post , M. J. walks you through how she develops killer copy for her clients’ book descriptions, advertising campaigns, social media posts, and author websites to help them outswim their competition.
